Fairbanks Studios (formerly BBC Elstree Centre) is a major UK film and high-end television production facility in Elstree & Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. Originally opened in 1914, it is one of the country’s most historic studio assets and is recognised as the second oldest studio in the UK. Today, the campus comprises a well-established mix of sound stages, production offices and supporting infrastructure, configured to accommodate large-scale, long-running productions within a secure and production-focused environment.
The site is home to the BBC’s flagship production EastEnders, underscoring its role as one of the UK’s most consistently active and strategically important studio campuses. More recently, part of the estate has been redeveloped to deliver five new sound stages, alongside workshops, feature production offices, backlot, production base and car parking, enhancing its capability to support contemporary high-end production. The repositioning and ongoing evolution of the asset has been led directly by Oxygen Studios, in partnership with BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts, combining institutional capital with specialist studio expertise to deliver a modernised, investment-grade production hub.
